Critical Review Four

SUMMARY: In this article, “Icing on the Cake” by Blythe Wachter, a woman named Karen Moline from Wisconsin talks about decorating cakes. She has been decorating cakes for over 25 years and says that she started out just decorating things for her family members. She has worked in several different environments and currently works at Ron’s Castle Foods, a local grocery store.
RESPONSE: I thought that this was a very helpful article. Moline gives home decorators some advice to “keep it simple, and don’t be afraid to try new things” (Wachter). I thought that this was a good tip, because when you are at home and you think about decorating a cake, you imagine this extravagant cake and you think that you couldn’t ever do something like that. Or at least that was the way that I thought. But you have to start out somewhere, just like everybody else. When I first started decorating cakes, I couldn’t do anything right to save my life. To me, it was great to see someone else who has had struggles like me turn into a great decorator that many people consider very creative.
